Luxury watchmaking is no longer just about precision and craftsmanship; it has evolved into a powerful form of storytelling. A recent creation by renowned luxury brand Jacob & Co reflects this shift. The brand has unveiled an extraordinary timepiece in India inspired by Vantara, a private wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centre owned by the family of Asia’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani. This watch stands out not only for its breathtaking design but also for its deep personal and symbolic connection.
At the centre of the open-work dial sits a hand-painted miniature figurine of Anant Ambani, Mukesh Ambani’s youngest son and founder of Vantara. Surrounding the figurine are sculpted figures of a lion and a Bengal tiger, representing strength, protection, and wildlife conservation. The dial also features a gold elephant emblem and the name “Vantara,” reinforcing the theme of compassion towards animals and nature.
In terms of luxury and craftsmanship, the watch is nothing short of spectacular. According to Jacob & Co, the timepiece is adorned with 397 precious stones. These include high-quality diamonds, green sapphires, garnets, and other rare gemstones set across the dial and case. The dominant green and gold color palette reflects the natural environment and adds to the richness of the design.
Jacob & Co has not officially announced the retail price, but industry collective Watchopea estimates the watch’s value at about $1.5 million (around ₹13 crore). This places it among the most expensive custom-themed luxury watches in the world, designed for ultra-high-net-worth collectors.
The watch pays tribute to Vantara, a massive wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centre spread across 3,500 acres in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The centre is home to more than 2,000 species, including lions, elephants, and tigers. Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March last year, it has since become one of India’s most talked-about private conservation initiatives.
Vantara also gained international attention during Anant Ambani’s lavish pre-wedding celebrations in 2024, which were hosted partly at the centre. The events drew global celebrities and business leaders, including Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Tony Blair, Boris Johnson, Ivanka Trump, and Jared Kushner, as well as India’s biggest Bollywood stars.
Earlier controversies surrounding the centre regarding animal welfare were later addressed when a Supreme Court-appointed team found no evidence of wrongdoing, clearing it of any allegations.
In its official social media announcement, Jacob & Co described the watch as a “tribute to Vantara,” stating that Anant Ambani’s figurine symbolises stewardship, responsibility, and care for wildlife. The brand’s India retail partner, Ethos Watches, confirmed that the watch is currently not available in stores and that the company has chosen not to publicly disclose its price.
For Brand.Education readers, this creation offers a valuable lesson in modern luxury branding. It shows how high-end brands blend exclusivity with emotional storytelling and social themes. By combining exceptional craftsmanship, rare gemstones, and a meaningful narrative linked to conservation and a powerful family legacy, Jacob & Co has transformed a watch into a symbol of purpose and prestige.
In today’s competitive luxury market, products that carry stories, values, and identity tend to leave a stronger impact. This $1.5 million Vantara-inspired watch is a clear example of how thoughtful design and strategic storytelling can elevate a brand far beyond just luxury, into lasting influence.
