Dr. Yatin J Patel, a board-certified pulmonologist, and sleep physician is a passionate advocate for his patients’ overall health. He has made it his mission to alleviate their suffering, and views each day as a new opportunity to promote a lifestyle founded on healthy and happy living. At his private practice, Sneeze & Snooze Clinic, Indiana, he oversees the care of the patients suffering from a variety of sleep disorders.
What was the main inspiration behind Snooze Clinic? Is there a story behind your business name? Back in 1994, when we started the Center for Sleep Studies at Goshen Hospital, we discussed the idea of starting a monthly newsletter to educate the medical staff about the importance of diagnosing and treating various sleep disorders. After a little brainstorming, we named that newsletter Snooze Letter! Several years later, when we built a new building for our sleep clinic, we carried the concept forwad and named it Snooze Clinic. Over last several decades, we have heard countless compliments from people from all walks of life and from around the world!
What was your main goal when you set up your business/career?
To make money! I am unabashedly honest about it. Growing up in the hardships of rural India in the 60s and 70s, I wanted to make sure that my family never faces a financial hardship that I went through. The other side of the coin though is that I have always focused on helping people by working hard and by working smart. “Earn your living by loving,” Henry David Thoreau had said and I have tried hard to follow that. I read Bhagvad Gita daily and try to implement Lord Krishna’s teaching in my daily life. The team at Snooze Clinic strives to treat patients better than they wish to be treated. We keep on looking at innovative ways to help more and more people feel alert, energetic, enthusiastic, and optimistic all-day, every day.
What measures did you take at first in order to try to set up an effective brand image? Speak. Speak. Speak. I must have given fifty or so talks about sleep disorders within the first couple of years of my medical practice. I have talked at Rotary meetings, Lions’ Club meetings, Medical Grand rounds, radio shows, and television shows. If there are five people willing to listen to me, I will be there! I have driven, on one occasion fifty miles each way, and given a talk to only two attendees! Speak. Speak. Speak.
What sets your personal brand apart from competitors?
If you are not getting better, you must be getting worse. I make sure that I continually improve. My competitors cannot keep up with my speed of change. I constantly think about using and enhancing my brand to help more and more people.
Which advertising or marketing method do you feel is most effective for your brand image?
I have a natural affinity for social media marketing, and I do love public speaking. When I combine these two, it gives me an unbeatable recipe for brand building. While writing a non-fiction book boosts my credibility, I can’t overemphasize the value of public speaking in enhancing one’s brand. I would encourage everyone to seek every opportunity for public speaking. Record it and use it in social media again and again to highlight your message and your brand.
