Tata Group, one of India’s largest conglomerates, has appointed Dr. Randhir Thakur as the CEO and managing director of Tata Electronics Pvt Ltd (TEPL), as part of its strategy to strengthen its semiconductor manufacturing capabilities and gain a competitive edge in the country’s precision machining business. Dr. Thakur, a veteran in the manufacturing space, was previously associated with global electronic chip and circuits manufacturing giant Intel, where he served as the president of Intel Foundry Services.
Dr. Thakur is known for his significant contributions to the development of advanced semiconductor technologies and has deep expertise in ecosystem leadership, process technology equipment, driving mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and product development, while collaborating closely with ecosystem partners and customers. His appointment is expected to bring valuable insights and leadership to TEPL as it seeks to expand its presence in the semiconductor fabrication and packaging segments.
TEPL, founded in 2020 as a greenfield venture of the Tata Group, specializes in manufacturing precision components and has a roadmap that extends to semiconductor fabrication and packaging. Its primary manufacturing facility is located in the Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu, India. Through TEPL, Tata Group aims to establish a strong foothold in the country’s precision machining and assembly capabilities space.
The appointment of Dr. Thakur as the CEO and managing director of TEPL comes at a crucial time as the demand for semiconductors continues to rise globally, driven by advancements in technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence, and Internet of Things (IoT).
