Many people from all around the world decide that they don’t want to retire in their country of origin and there are a number of reasons for that. It could be that the price of living has gone through the roof and they just don’t have the financial funds to support themselves in a country like the United Kingdom or the USA. It may also be the case that the weather is to extreme in their country of origin and the United Kingdom would be a good example of this and especially so around wintertime. Whatever the reasons, retirees want to move to warmer climates and so this is when they reach out to Thailand.
The good news is that you can stay in Thailand long-term as long as you make sure that you get the right kind of visa in place before you leave. Many retired people prefer to go for what is known as the Non-O retirement visa and this allows them to stay for a year which needs to be renewed annually. One of the requirements is that you must have a non o retirement insurance in Thailand in place before you leave. It makes perfect sense to get the right kind of insurance when you become an expat and the following are some of the reasons why.
- It may be a requirement – Many countries including Thailand insist that you have insurance in place before you can come to there and for many good reasons. Nobody knows what lies around the next corner and so you if you run into some health issues and if you don’t have the money to pay for a medical procedure then you could be in a lot of trouble. Having the right kind of insurance policy in place gives you peace of mind that everyone should have.
- It helps protect your savings – It is true that your pension and your savings can go a long way in Thailand and you can live a life that you have only dreamt about before now. However, all it takes is something to go wrong and then you have to put your hand in your own pocket to pay out. At this stage in your life, you can’t afford to go back to work and so putting an insurance policy in place to cover all eventualities makes perfect financial sense.
- You get the best medical care – If you do run into difficulties with regard to your health then it is important that you get a diagnosis and get treatment as soon as possible. Once again, it’s not cheap to get medical care in Thailand and even though it is free for the people who live there, it is certainly not free for you.
Never leave your country of origin without making sure that you have the right insurance policies in place that will protect you during your stay.
