Westline Entertainment, organizers of the Western Music Awards (WMA), have revealed 610Music as headline sponsors of the award scheme. The announcement was made on July 9, during the unveiling of the nominations at the Anaji Choice Mart conference hall in Takoradi. Now in its sixth year, the Western Music Awards is an initiative to celebrate legends and musicians within the Western Region.
Fresh off its launch in Ghana, the US-based record label has begun putting measures in place to take the Ghana music industry to the next level. Its three-year partnership with the WMA serves as an avenue for scouting talent and saw the addition of five new categories to the award scheme. Best Blogger of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Western Diaspora of the Year, Instrumentalist of the Year, and Most Streamed Artist of the Year were the categories introduced by 610Music.
In addition, the Universal Music affiliate will be a part of the awards committee and support the WMAs with publicity. With a music industry career spanning over 15 years, the CEO of 610Music, Kofi Sonny, will provide the Western Music Awards with the necessary resources to develop the scheme and support emerging acts from the region. “As a company, this is also an opportunity for us to have an imprint here,” Kofi Sonny stated at the unveiling ceremony. He further expressed excitement at the partnership and admiration for the city of Takoradi, which he was visiting for the first time.
