As the senior partner in a busy city dental practice, we were always looking for ways to improve the service offered to our clients. We felt confident that we had the best dentists for miles around but felt that phones and pagers were not our most discrete and efficient option for streamlining our communication.
It was quite by chance when I hit on a solution I hadn’t imagined. I was researching buying some two way radios as both my wife and I are keen hikers and campers taking full advantage of the Great Aussie Outdoors as a foil for our busy city lifestyle (she’s an orthodontist).
The firm in question inspired confidence in their high-grade equipment that was in stark contrast to the walkie-talkie “toys” advertised as rugged that you see on the high street. This was great tech with a US Defence Department Standard ticket with rain and dustproofing that would last for 10-15 years.
We purchased a great bundle but investigating a section on “industry solutions” we saw an intriguing reference to “dentist/medical practice”.
This led to us equipping our practice with a two-way radio system. UHF radio (more suitable for buildings than a VHF system) allows for clear communication among staff members such as receptionists, assistants and dentists themselves.
They helped to manage patient flow vis-a-vis room availability and enhanced patient experience.
In the case of a medical emergency or security issue radio communication enables a swift response.
A further benefit is that it is cost-effective compared to mobile phones with no ongoing costs, data plans or cell coverage issues. In addition, radios have proven their reliability ensuring that communications remain uninterrupted. That, along with privacy and security, is so important in a medical context.
Apart from the field of dentistry and cosmetic dentistry and the wider world of doctors’ surgeries and clinics, there are perhaps many more traditional areas of business that would benefit from walkie-talkies.
Some are obvious such as emergency and evacuation situations but others are utilising radios in the construction business, event management where staff can be spread over a wide area and of course in farms and rural locations where cell phone coverage may be spasmodic or non-existent.
Other areas are marine, large restaurants, nightclubs…really the list is endless so consider two-way radios to enhance your business operations and contact the experts today.
The high-grade equipment we purchased promises to be just as durable as the government spec system we bought for the great outdoors. The choice also features the leading brands and accessories from such well-known suppliers as Kenwood, Motorola, ICOM, GME and Tait.
Every kind of budget is catered for.
