Urban Café at Hyatt Regency Chandigarh offers a menu inspired by the rich culinary traditions of Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh. The restaurant’s contemporary design, featuring a warm earthy color palette, provides a welcoming atmosphere for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It also boasts a premium wine collection and a whisky bar, catering to those seeking a sophisticated dining experience. While the buffet is a well-known highlight, this review focuses on the à la carte experience during less active hours, specifically between 4:30 – 5:30 pm.
During our visit, we opted to try two Chinese dishes—Wok Fried Asian Greens with Garlic Sauce and Stir Fry Noodles with Chives and Garlic—accompanied by Fresh Fruit Smoothies.
Urban Café Ambiance and Service
Urban Café truly excels in providing a five-star service experience. From the venue’s elegant design to the impeccable hygiene standards, everything aligns perfectly with the premium feel of the restaurant. It’s an ideal spot for formal lunches or dinners, with the staff ensuring a seamless dining experience.
The Food
The Wok Fried Asian Greens with Garlic Sauce and Stir Fry Noodles were both outstanding. The sauce was flavorful, and the vegetables were fresh and vibrant, creating a delicious combination. The noodles were equally impressive, and the accompanying Hyatt chili oil/sauce was one of the best we’ve tasted, even rivaling dedicated Chinese restaurants. Although Urban Café is a multi-cuisine restaurant, their Chinese offerings were certainly a highlight.
We were also served complimentary Chinese crunchy crackers, a nice touch that added to the overall experience.
However, there was a notable drawback: the portion sizes. Despite the large bowls, the quantity of food was disappointing. It seemed that 30% of the bowls were empty, particularly the noodles, which were insufficient even for light eaters. This issue made the dishes feel overpriced considering the small portions.
The Smoothies:
The Fresh Fruit Smoothie had a delicious banana flavor, making it a simple yet refreshing choice. It’s a great pick if you’re in the mood for something light and fruity.
Final Thoughts:
While the taste of the food at Urban Café is undoubtedly five-star, the portion sizes and the disappointing smoothie bring the overall experience down a notch. If you’re looking for a premium dining spot with excellent service and ambiance, Urban Café is a solid choice, especially for formal meals. However, be prepared for smaller portions and a potentially underwhelming smoothie experience.
