There are a lot of people who are fed up with seeing wrinkles on their faces when they look in the mirror.
This has, luckily, now become an issue that can be solved with non-surgical treatments, such as botulinum toxin injections, or even dermal fillers. Both provide a simple solution, which can last up to a year, and are more cost-effective than ever.
Of course, while it is all well and good to pursue these treatments, once you have had them done, are there any steps you should take to enhance their longevity? In this article, you will be walked through the best steps to take after you have had botulinum toxin injections, to prolong their effect and to reduce swelling. Enjoy!
No Gym!
OK, so in 2025, a lot of people go to the gym, and when you have had Botox injections, you may want to show off how your skin looks afterward.
This is not advised for at least 4 hours post-injection. Why? In simple terms, the injected Botox can become dislodged with a fast heart rate, which is more likely to occur if you are exercising. So, try to stay off the treadmill for at least 4 hours and wait between 24-48 hours before undertaking any strenuous exercise.
No Sun!
Post-injection, your skin is likely to be sore and healing. Again, while it may be tempting to go out to show your friends your glowing new skin, getting excess sun exposure is not a good idea. It can heighten the chances of inflammation, and redness and can slow down the healing process. So, if you have these injections done in the middle of summer, it is advised that you wear a sun hat on the way home!
Drink Plenty of Water
Generally, drinking water is a good idea to keep your skin hydrated.
When you have had botulinum toxin injections, staying hydrated can help your skin heal faster and help with overall hydration. You should, however, only stick to water, as consuming alcohol or caffeinated beverages can cause the skin to become dehydrated, and worsen the chances of bruising.
No Makeup
It is advisednot to apply makeup to your face after you have had these injections. Much like the risk of dislodging the toxin with exercise, you can do the same by applying pressure to your face. So, try to keep your makeup off for at least 24 hours post-injection.
No Face Creams
As mentioned before, your skin may feel sore and hot when you have had these injections. Applying a cooling moisturizer can make it tempting, but, as you may have guessed, this is not a good idea! Applying moisturizer requires pressure on the skin, which can cause the toxin to move under the skin, reducing effectiveness. So, no skin cream for 24 hours after you have had the injection. If your skin feels hot, you can use an ice pack wrapped in a towel to gently dab the area, for around two seconds at a time for up to a minute.
