Hello Rick, welcome to brandEducation! Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am one of nine children, a devoted father to five remarkable children, and a proud grandfather to eight vibrant grandchildren. I share my life with an extraordinary woman who embraces me for who I am. Beyond my family roles, I am an uncle, a friend, and a trusted business associate. I’m a dreamer and a doer, someone who believes in the power of perseverance. I’ve learned from experience that falling down is merely an opportunity to rise stronger. My philosophy is simple yet profound: “You’ll never know if you don’t try.” And when faced with life’s challenges, I often ask myself, “Why not me?” This mindset fuels my journey, reminding me to embrace life’s uncertainties with courage and curiosity. I admit that I tend to speak my mind without much of a filter, often resulting in a few bruised egos, although honesty is always my intention.

Where are you from and where do you live?

I hail from Cleveland, Ohio, but have made my home in Safety Harbor, Florida, for the past 25 years.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time, I thrive on the dynamic pace and friendly competition of pickleball and ping pong, games that sharpen my reflexes and invigorate my spirit. When I seek tranquility, you’ll find me in my garden, where the simple act of tending to plants provides a profound sense of connection to nature. Additionally, I am an avid reader, immersing myself in books that broaden my perspective and fuel my imagination. Each of these activities enriches my life, offering a delightful balance between energetic play and peaceful reflection.

Can you tell us a little bit about your journey?

My journey has been a vivid tapestry of ambitions, explorations, and personal evolutions. From a young age, I was fiercely independent and a bit of a dreamer. I dabbled in get-rich-quick schemes, always chasing the next big opportunity. I believed fervently that half the battle of life was just showing up, and the other half was getting back up after being knocked down.

After graduation, I moved to California, lured by the promise of new adventures and bigger challenges. There, I transitioned from being a big fish in a small pond to a small fish in a vast ocean. While I loved the exhilarating day trips with friends and the solitude of standing with my feet in the sand as waves washed over them, a deep sense of loneliness for a companion to share my life with often overtook me.

In this search for companionship, I married a slightly older woman, and together we had three beautiful daughters. Our marriage, like many, had its seasons of both joy and challenge. After about ten years, we stumbled and ultimately could not find our way back to each other.

Life took me down the path of a second marriage, bringing another wonderful daughter and a son into my life. After two decades together, we amicably decided to go our separate ways. Now, I find myself in a third and fulfilling marriage with a wonderful woman who understands me profoundly—sometimes better than I understand myself. She not only cherishes me but also shows great love and kindness towards all my children. Her acceptance and love are true blessings in my life.

Each phase of my life has taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, hope, and the importance of relationships. Looking back, my journey is not just about the destinations I’ve reached but about the growth I’ve experienced along the way. Every challenge and transition has been a building block in the person I am today, and I’m grateful for each moment.

If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?

“Outside the box”

What truly ignites my passion?

Beyond the necessity of paying bills, I’m driven by an insatiable desire to craft stories that resonate deeply with readers around the globe. Writing is not just a profession for me—it’s a profound source of joy and a thrilling adventure in creativity. Each story I create unfolds in my mind like a vivid film, filled with characters and scenarios so real, they often leave me breathless with concern for their destinies—even though I’m their creator.

My days are spent navigating these characters through thrilling escapades and intricate dilemmas, inspired by the diverse array of personalities I encounter in daily life. For instance, Gwin, a character from my sixth book, embodies the enigmatic and unsettling aspects of human nature. Developing her character was as much a journey into my own fears and fascinations as it was about creating a compelling narrative.

The thrill I experience when someone has read my work and wants to discuss it is indescribable. It’s in these moments that I truly feel the impact of my stories, seeing how they resonate and stir emotions in readers. This connection, this shared excitement over a world I’ve imagined, fuels my continued passion for storytelling and drives me to explore even more complex and compelling tales.

Each new book is a doorway to discovery, both for myself and my readers, and it’s this endless potential for exploration that truly inspires me.

Share something our audience wouldn’t know about you.

“One thing that might surprise the audience is how much I draw inspiration from a diverse range of authors. Each writer brings something unique to the table that enriches my own storytelling. For instance, I am continually amazed by authors who can transport readers to incredibly vivid worlds, almost as if they’re opening a portal to another dimension. Then there are those who craft characters so real and compelling that they linger in your mind long after the book is closed. And let’s not forget the wordsmiths who wield the English language with such precision and beauty—it’s like watching a maestro at work. From each of these talents, I try to learn and incorporate aspects into my own writing, aiming to weave together engaging narratives that resonate deeply with my readers.”

How did you get into writing?

My journey into writing began in 2008, during a period of significant personal upheaval. One by one, I watched as my assets were repossessed—rental properties, 4-wheelers, a camper, my boat, motorcycle, and finally, my home. In the midst of clearing out my beloved mahogany desk to sell for gas money, I discovered an old cigar box left by my grandfather. Inside was a fake ID from when I was 16, where I’d changed my birthdate to appear 21 and adopted the name Rick Timber.

This discovery from my teenage years sparked my imagination: Who could Rick Timber have been if he were real? I started with a simple description, which evolved into a paragraph, then a chapter, and before I knew it, I was hooked on writing his story. My first book, “Reckless Ambition (Meet Rick Timber),” was a learning curve—I rushed to publish using a substandard editor and ended up with a garage full of unsold books. The only reader was my mother, who returned it covered in sticky notes pointing out numerous errors. It was a harsh introduction to the importance of good editing. After overhearing a relative call the book a flop, I stopped writing for two years.

However, the urge to write returned, and with it, stories that needed to be told. My subsequent books, “In Your Dreams” and “When I’m Gone,” marked a turning point in my writing career. I now release a new book every two years and proudly maintain ratings between 4.5 and 5 stars on Amazon for all eight of my publications.

Tell us about your latest book.

“I’m really excited to talk about my book, ‘Tow the Line.’ It’s a story that delves into themes of justice, resilience, and human connection through the eyes of two compelling characters, Gwin and Paxton, who navigate a perilous world to confront the injustices that have shaped their lives. This book represents not just a thrilling narrative, but also a deeper exploration of the complexities of human nature and the power of unexpected alliances. I believe it offers readers a gripping and thought-provoking experience, and I’m eager to share it with everyone.”

Can you tell us what inspired ‘Tow the Line’ and what is the story behind it?

‘Tow the Line,’ a continuation of the dark and thrilling narrative that began with ‘The Wrong Side of the Glass.’ These books are born from a fear of losing control and a drive to leave a lasting impact, not through inspiration, but through an exploration of the extremes of human experience. ‘Tow the Line’ intensifies this exploration, drawing readers deeper into a world where reality blurs and the stakes are unimaginably high. Gwin and Paxton, our protagonists, navigate a dangerous landscape that tests the limits of what they—and the reader—thought possible. This series offers not just an escape, but a compelling descent into scenarios that challenge the mind and quicken the pulse, taking you to places unimaginably dark and intense.”

Are you working on anything at present that you would like to share?

Yes, I’m currently working on the third installment in the Gwin Apollo series, titled “Chasing Gwin.” This book continues the thrilling saga of Gwin Apollo, a master of disguise and manipulation, who is always two steps ahead of the law. In this sequel, the stakes are higher as Gwin’s past actions come back to haunt her in a game of cat and mouse that stretches across Europe.

“Chasing Gwin” delves deeper into the psychological complexities of its characters, particularly Gwin, who is embroiled in a desperate bid to maintain her freedom while evading an intensifying FBI pursuit. The story explores themes of identity, redemption, and the lengths one will go to protect their loved ones. As Gwin adopts new identities, she must navigate a labyrinth of intrigue and deception, with the narrative weaving through the shadowy streets of European cities, from the bustling markets of Vienna to the serene waters of the Danube.

This book also introduces new dynamic characters, including a keen-eyed FBI team determined to finally capture Gwin. Their investigation brings them dangerously close to uncovering her most guarded secrets. As the tension escalates, readers will be drawn into a compelling world where every choice Gwin makes could either secure her freedom or lead to her undoing.

Now is the moment to tap into my higher self—the unshakeable, magical essence within me that remains calm and steadfast, laying brick by brick regardless of the challenges ahead. I am committed to shining brightly in every opportunity, unafraid of failure, for each setback is merely a stepping stone to greater achievements.

Obstacles dissolve before me as I rise to meet them, driven by a relentless passion and enduring perseverance. My ability to connect with others is one of my greatest strengths. I read their body language, sense their emotions, and patiently wait for the perfect moment to make a meaningful impact.
