For Alex Palamariu, writing is more than publishing a book. It’s about the feeling readers get when they turn the last page and immediately want another story. As a young author already inspiring friends and even grown-ups, Alex believes imagination is something everyone can use. In this interview, he talks about joy, inspiration, and why creating stories matters at any age
Hello Alex, welcome to BrandEducation! When someone reads your books, what do you hope they feel?
Alex: Joy. That’s the biggest thing. I want people to enjoy reading and feel happy turning the pages. I also want them to feel proud when they finish a book. And maybe a little curious, like, “Okay… what happens next?” That’s why I like cliffhangers.
At first, I planned a lot of books in the same series, but now I also like making stories that aren’t connected. New ideas are fun. Writing shouldn’t feel like homework. It should feel like play.
How do you know when an idea is good enough to publish?
Alex: You can feel it in your body. It’s like when you build something, and you just know, “Yes. This is it.” I feel really proud that I published a book at this age. That feeling wouldn’t change if I were older. Publishing a book isn’t just the actual writing – it’s saying, “I like being in this story.”
Sometimes ideas start very small. Like opening a box of pencils and colors. You don’t know what’s going to happen yet, but the box is full of possibilities. The ideas don’t tell you what to do. They trust you. I like that.
Do you think your books can inspire others?
Alex: I think so. If kids see that I can write a book at this age, they might think they can do it too. And grown-ups might get inspired as well. Sometimes adults forget that they can imagine things. I think stories can help them remember.

Is it still important to write even if a book never gets published?
Alex: Yes. Writing is important even if it doesn’t get published. You still get to think, imagine, and create. Publishing is exciting, but it’s not the only reason to write.
What advice would you give to kids and adults who want to make stories?
Alex: Think. Imagine. Create. And don’t give up. And also have fun. If you’re enjoying it, you’re probably doing it right.
For me, writing is about joy, curiosity, and sharing ideas. That’s what I hope people feel when they read my books.
Where can readers find the book and more about you?
Alex: SPY AT THE AIRPORT is now available as a paperback and hardcover on Friesen Press, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and many other platforms. Hopefully soon in bookshops and school libraries too.
