Italian two-wheeler giant Piaggio has introduced a new chapter in Vespa’s legacy with the launch of the Vespa Officina 8 special edition in India. Priced at ₹1.34 lakh (ex-showroom, Maharashtra), the limited-run scooter is available at select Vespa dealerships across the country.
Finished exclusively in a striking matte metallic shade called Blue Officina 8, the scooter comes with a matching helmet as standard. This reinforces its identity as a curated, collector-inspired offering rather than just another variant.
The Officina 8 badge isn’t just a design label. It draws inspiration from Piaggio’s historic experimental division in Pontedera, Italy.
Established in 1944, Officina 8 was created as a dedicated workshop for testing prototypes, experimenting with new engineering ideas, and refining components under rigorous conditions. It played a crucial role in shaping one of the most recognisable scooter silhouettes in the world.
Within this experimental department, Vespa’s groundbreaking features were born: the step-through steel frame, two-stroke engine architecture, direct-drive transmission, and the iconic handlebar-mounted gear control system. These elements redefined urban mobility in post-war Europe and eventually across the globe.
With the Officina 8 edition, Piaggio brings that spirit of innovation into a contemporary design narrative.
The matte metallic Blue Officina 8 finish is inspired by the tools, machinery, and workwear used in the original experimental workshop. The result is a sophisticated industrial aesthetic rather than a flashy cosmetic treatment.
Metallic rivets, brass accents, and aluminium-toned detailing elevate the scooter’s visual identity. The finish balances heritage cues with modern refinement, making it appealing to both Vespa loyalists and design-focused buyers.
To complement the scooter, Piaggio has introduced a line of matching accessories and lifestyle merchandise, including a top box, windbreakers, hoodies, T-shirts, backpacks, and keychains, available at an additional cost.
The Vespa Officina 8 is available in both 125cc and 150cc configurations. Mechanically, it remains identical to the standard Vespa models in these engine classes, ensuring proven reliability and performance.
This means buyers get the trusted Vespa ride quality and urban practicality, combined with a special-edition identity rooted in heritage.
Adding to the exclusivity, customers receive a welcome kit that includes an owner’s book detailing the history and philosophy of Officina 8. It is a thoughtful touch that positions the scooter as part of a broader legacy rather than just a commuter vehicle.
With the Officina 8 edition, Piaggio appears to be leaning into storytelling and brand heritage, offering Indian customers a product that connects emotionally with Vespa’s origins. ₹1.34 lakh, the Vespa Officina 8 is a design-forward, limited-availability offering aimed at riders who value craftsmanship, legacy, and exclusivity.
More than just a new colourway, it is a tribute to the workshop where the Vespa story first took shape, now reimagined for modern streets.
