Bollywood star Katrina Kaif has been officially named the global tourism ambassador for the Maldives. The announcement was made by the island nation’s tourism board, just weeks before Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the country.
The Maldives praised Katrina Kaif as a globally recognised personality, known for her successful film career and her influence that extends beyond entertainment. She was described as an icon whose presence would help highlight the country’s beauty and attract visitors from around the world.
Reacting to the news, Katrina said she was honoured to take on the new role. She called the Maldives a “place where elegance meets tranquillity,” and expressed her excitement about helping the world discover its stunning natural beauty and luxurious travel experiences.
The CEO of Visit Maldives, Ibrahim Shiuree, stated that the country was delighted to welcome Katrina Kaif as the face of its global tourism campaign. He said her energetic personality and strong global fan base make her a perfect fit to represent the Maldives as “the Sunny Side of Life.”
This announcement comes at a time when relations between India and the Maldives are improving after a period of diplomatic tension. The Maldives recently celebrated a major milestone, welcoming one million tourists as of June 7, 2025.
With Katrina Kaif on board, the Maldives hopes to further boost its appeal and inspire more people to explore its world-class beaches, crystal-clear waters, and luxurious resorts.
