It’s been said that writing is about the author, publishing is about the story, but the marketing is for the reader. I’d like to argue that readers often buy books because of the person behind the story.
I could be biased, though. I have loved books ever since I learned how to read, and my favourite part has always been reading about the author on the back cover. It was my version of keeping up with my favourite celebrities. I was in a library one day browsing books and noticed that all you could see about the author was a tiny picture and short paragraph about who they were. Authors have personalities, thoughts, and opinions, and I wanted readers to have the opportunity to get better acquainted with these people who don’t often get to talk about themselves. That’s where the idea for The RV Book Fair came from. I wanted to create a platform that allowed authors to speak their minds and show their faces, and that allowed readers to get to know the people behind the words.
Books are personal. They carry pieces of the writer’s life, imagination, and experiences. When readers connect with an author, that connection often deepens their interest in the story itself. A book can become more than just pages; it becomes a conversation between writer and reader. That connection is powerful, and it can turn a casual reader into a lifelong supporter.
The RV Book Fair was created with that exact vision in mind. It is a free literary event that celebrates authors and their work through a unique, interactive format, giving them the chance to connect directly with readers and other creatives. Hosted by Relatable Media, The RV Book Fair has grown into a space where writers, illustrators, and storytellers can come together, share their journeys, and build meaningful connections. Each year, it becomes a stronger reminder that storytelling is not only about selling books, but about building community. Authors and creatives interested in participating can register at www.relatable-media.com/the-rv-book-fair or contact us at info@relatable-media.com.

In a world where we are all connected by social media, it’s difficult to have your voice be heard in such a saturated space. In fact, one of our returning guests, Gary Smith, has participated in the fair for five years, and he shared with us that he saw an increase in traffic to his website and has been very happy with the results. Many of our guests participate not only to sell books, but also to get their names out there, be invited to speaking engagements, and build recognition in the literary world.
The RV Book Fair has become more than just an event. It is a place where authors can connect, collaborate, and celebrate their work while readers discover new voices and stories they may have never found otherwise. It’s a reminder that behind every book is a real person with a story worth telling.
Technology is here to stay, but our love for reading isn’t going anywhere.
