India – Citroen has launched the updated Basalt X coupe SUV in India, starting at an introductory price of ₹7.95 lakh (ex-showroom). With this update, Citroen has not only reduced prices across the range but also introduced several new features in the top-spec Basalt X Max trim to make it more appealing to buyers.
What’s New in the Basalt X?
On the outside, the Basalt X looks almost identical to the standard model, with the only visible change being a new ‘Basalt X’ badge on the tailgate. The real changes are on the inside.
The Basalt X Max now gets a redesigned dashboard wrapped in leatherette, bronze trim accents, and new tan-and-black upholstery, giving the cabin a more premium look.
The feature list has also seen a big boost. The highlight is Cara, Citroen’s new in-car AI assistant, available exclusively in the automatic trims. Cara can check flight statuses in real-time, provide traffic updates, track vehicle health, set reminders, and even handle calls and SOS alerts.

Other key additions include ventilated seats, cruise control, ambient lighting, LED fog lamps, keyless entry with push-button start/stop, and an optional 360-degree camera.
Variants and Pricing
The Basalt X replaces the earlier Max trims and is now more affordable:
- You: ₹7.95 lakh
- Plus: ₹9.42 – 12.07 lakh
- Max: ₹11.63 – 12.90 lakh
Optional extras include a dual-tone roof (₹21,000) and 360-degree camera (₹25,000).
Engine and Powertrain
The engine options remain unchanged. Buyers can choose between:
- A 1.2-litre turbo-petrol (110 hp) with 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic.
- A 1.2-litre petrol (82 hp) with 5-speed manual (for entry variants).
Positioning in the Market
With its revised pricing and feature-rich package, the Citroen Basalt X is set to compete directly with popular midsize SUVs like the Hyundai Creta. By blending European design with a refreshed feature set, Citroën aims to attract buyers seeking style, comfort, and technology in one package.
The Basalt X represents Citroen’s strategy of making premium features more accessible, while still keeping its cars distinct in design and personality.
