Givenchy Beauty has officially announced Chinese actress Zhao Liying as its new global beauty brand ambassador, marking a fresh chapter for the French luxury house. This is the brand’s first major celebrity partnership since Sarah Burton became creative director in September.
Zhao Liying, 37, is one of China’s most popular actresses, known for her powerful roles in hit television dramas like The Journey of Flower (2015), The Story of Minglan (2018), and Wild Bloom (2022), for which she won a “Best Actress” award. She has also starred in several successful films, including Duckweed (2017), The Monkey King 3 (2018), Article 20 (2024), and the recent 2025 crime drama We Girls.
Born in Langfang, Hebei, Zhao began her acting journey in 2006 after winning a national talent competition. She quickly rose to fame with early roles in shows like Legend of Lu Zhen and Boss & Me.
To launch the partnership, Givenchy released a new campaign featuring Zhao wearing the brand’s Le Rouge Velvet Matte lipstick in almond terracotta. The visuals were shot with Zhao styled in Givenchy by Sarah Burton, blending timeless elegance with modern flair.
This move reflects Givenchy’s aim to refresh its beauty line and connect with younger global audiences, especially in Asia. It also comes at a time when luxury parent company LVMH is facing a challenging retail environment, with a 3% drop in first-quarter sales reported in April.
With Zhao Liying’s global influence and long-standing popularity, Givenchy is expected to bring new energy and visibility to its makeup collection.
